The Phantom of the Opera has been running on broadway ever since 1987, there for it is the longest running show in broadway history. This blog is dedicated to the wonderful Phantom of the Opera. PHANTOM NEVER DIES.

I ship this so hard. Really Hard. Harder than Erik’s frantic organ playing.

Poor, unhappy Erik! Shall we pity him? Shall we curse him? He asked only to be ‘some one,’ like everybody else. But he was too ugly! And he had to hide his genius or use it to play tricks with, when, with an ordinary face, he would have been one of the most distinguished of mankind! He had a heart that could have held the entire empire of the world; and, in the end, he had to content himself with a cellar.

The iconic half-mask was designed by Maria Bjornson, per request of Hal Prince, who was afraid the original full mask would reduce the Phantom’s facial action entirely to the mouth and away from the eyes. The half-mask was designed to free up more of the face, a solution that worked out perfectly, and is now legendary.
